Wednesday, August 17th, 2011

Outdoor Wedding IdeasFor too many people, organizing a wedding is a difficult experience, but it doesn’t have to be that way. With careful planning and the right help it can be enjoyable and fairly stress free. The key to success is knowing what you want and then working out how to get it; this is true of any wedding. Get this right and not only will the organising be fun, but you will be better equipped to enjoy your wedding day, and that is the most important thing. Here we share our top tips for a perfect outdoor wedding, from deciding what kind or wedding you want to employing a party hire company.

What do you want?

  1. Size and style: Do you want a small intimate wedding with only close friends and family present to witness your marriage? Or would you prefer a grand occasion with hundreds of guests? Neither option is better than other; it’s all about personal preference. It is important to decide this early on as it will help you with the rest of your planning, not least when you come to work out your budget.

Easy Dessert Recipes – 3 Simple Tips

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

Easy Dessert RecipesAlways finding ourselves short of time in today’s world, easy dessert recipes are more important than ever. Have you ever wanted to make a wonderful and delicious dessert to magnificently top off a gathering meal but found yourself short on time? Or maybe you are new to making desserts and need some help? I’m sure it happens to all of us now and then.

As a dessert lover myself, I always try to make sure that the dessert I make will at least result in some words of praise from my guests. One of the best things about having great dessert is not just that it gives you that wonderful feeling, but it also makes you happy when you see how much your guests or family members are enjoying it. But how do you do that if you are new and find dessert-making difficult, or if you’re constantly busy and making dessert is too time-consuming?

This article gives you some simple tips for making life simpler by choosing the right easy dessert recipes, and some advice for making almost any dessert recipe easier.

1. Recipe Size

Often we overlook the fact that the dessert recipes we make can be downsized to fit our needs. This can be as simple as taking a normal dessert recipe and dividing all the ingredient portions in half or in quarter, but not every recipe may be so appropriately scaled down. When searching for easy dessert recipes, be on the look out for the serving sizes listed for each recipe. Some recipes are specially designed for a small number of guests and these will save you a lot of hassle and worry.

Small dessert recipes are easier to make and they bake faster too. This is especially so if your kitchen isn’t as big as you want it to be, or you don’t have enough large bowls. Also, keep in mind that desserts are normally eaten after a large, full meal, and smaller easy dessert recipes will go well with the guests. If you have any guests who are trying to keep control of their weight, they will thank you for this too.

Different Types of Candy to Make From Home

Friday, June 10th, 2011

With some practice you can make delicious candy at home. Some of the options you can make include caramels, fudge, marshmallows, chocolate covered cherries, nut brittle, candied fruit and fruit rinds, spiced candied nuts, divinity, chocolate covered pretzels, caramel popcorn, and on and on. Making candy at home is not as difficult as many people believe. The trick is in understanding some of the basic cooking terms your recipe uses and having the right equipment. Let’s look at the equipment first. You probably already have many of these items in your kitchen.

EQUIPMENT

If you are going to make candy at home one of the first things you will want to invest in is a good candy thermometer. You can purchase the inexpensive glass variety for around five dollars, but for about twelve you can get the best of the line which includes a metal base which encloses the glass. I have found this to be the best value. For some reason those inexpensive models don’t seem to last and the temperatures shown are often off just enough to cause my candy to fail.

You will also need some deep sided heavy cookware. I have found that you can make candy much more safely if you use a large heavy stew pot, the type that comes with most cookware sets. Because the quantity of candy is usually small, this type of pot eliminates boil-over. You will also need a smaller, 3 quart and a 2 quart pot for melting chocolate, butter, making sugar syrup and other tasks.

Cookie sheets aren’t just for making cookies but you should have at least one of the jelly roll pans. These are similar to cookie sheets except that they have a shallow, usually one inch, rim all around. These are perfect for setting fudge and making other candies.

Fun DIY Ideas for Your Child’s Next Birthday Party

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

Looking for some imaginative ideas for your child’s birthday party?

Here is a fun Do-It-Yourself idea for a themed party that will make planning a child’s birthday party fun, as well as wow the honoree and guests!

Choose an Aquarium theme and transform your home into an under-water oasis. First, draw a colorful ocean scene along a long roll of butcher paper. You will then tape sections of this ocean scene onto the walls of the party room, surrounding your guests with an ocean landscape.

You can also hang blue and green streamers from the doorway with colorful cardboard fish cut outs taped to them, as well as blue and green balloons around the room. Another fun idea is to play a DVD with underwater scenes (such as Finding Nemo, The Little Mermaid, or even a nature documentary) in the background.

Five Tips For Including Chocolate In Your Daily Diet

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

Benefits of Dark ChocolateWhen it comes to dark chocolate, sometimes we just can’t get more than enough!

It’s perfectly fine to add a daily part of chocolate for your diet, and perhaps recommended for health benefits, however there are some things you have to look at just before splurging.

Tip #1: Be Careful With Calories

Dark chocolate is very full of fat and full of calories. It’s not recommended to eat a pound of chocolate a day, even though it can feel hard to not overload.

Along with a well-balanced diet, you ought to be looking to add no more than 100 grams (or 3.5 ounces) of dark chocolate per day to maximize the advantages.

One bar of chocolate will normally have around 400 calories. So, if you choose to eat 1 / 2 of that bar, that equates to around 200 calories. Therefore, you need to do something to balance out those 200 extra calories, whether it’s giving up something you’d eat, or increasing your physical activity levels to burn off those extra calories.

Tip #2: Don’t Inhale It!

With regards to dessert (especially chocolate), I’ve been known to inhale my way through sight.

Don’t do this! Instead, concentrate on tasting the chocolate.

Since chocolate is really an intricate food with over 300 compounds and chemicals hiding in each bite, you need to really slow down and concentrate on enjoying and appreciating the unique flavour.

Professional chocolate tasters (wow, I want that job!) have actually developed a system for tasting chocolate, which include a variety of quality assessments which range from appearance, smell, feel, and taste of each and every delicious piece.
